world : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Namibia’s capital Windhoek on Wednesday. He was given a grand welcome here. PM Modi was given a 21-gun salute in a formal welcome. This is Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Namibia. This is the third visit of an Indian Prime Minister in the last 27 years. PM Modi also paid tribute to the country’s founder and former President Dr. Sam Nujoma.

world : Four important agreements were signed between India and Namibia on Wednesday. The agreements are related to promoting bilateral cooperation in many areas including energy and healthcare. This was told after the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitw. PM Modi, who arrived here from Brazil in the last leg of his five-nation tour, held delegation-level talks with President Nandi-Ndaitw at the State House.

He was given a grand traditional welcome at Hosea Kutako International Airport, where he was welcomed by Namibia’s International Relations and Cooperation Minister Selma Ashipala-Musawi. Local musicians and dancers performed at the welcome ceremony. The Prime Minister joined the artists in this moment of applause and cheers.

India and Namibia have had very strong relations for a long time. New Delhi recognised Namibia much before its independence and also raised the issue in the United Nations General Assembly in 1946. Bilateral trade between the two countries is mainly in mineral resources like zinc and diamond processing. Namibia is a resource-rich country. It has natural resources like uranium, copper, cobalt, rare earths, lithium, graphite, tantalum. India also brought some leopards from Namibia and released them in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
